Her Royal Highness's Yearly Festive Service of Carols Spotlights Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly Yuletide celebration at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The 1,600 guests will enjoy a mix of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Compassion and Love

The focus of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to budding artists supported by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the former royal to widen access to instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
