Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized the Russian player secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid season, achieving just one match at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's maiden title after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from spring of 2023.

The win also signifies he has secured 21 titles at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent reactions on court had led some to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.

However the athlete has made changes in the past month, attempting to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced service.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the final five games to take the lead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden professional championship, seized the initiative to create a final set.

He saved 4 initial opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
